Intro to cow work

Introduction to Cow and Ranch Work
Monday Night Cow Work
Ropes & Reins at Wolf Creek
These hands-on cow work sessions are led by Luke, whose lifelong experience with horses and cattle provides a solid foundation for both horse and rider. Luke has worked with several respected trainers in reining, cow horse, and team roping and currently trains and shows rope horses at AQHA, bringing practical, real-world ranch experience to every session.
Designed to introduce horses and riders to basic cattle handling and ranch work, sessions take place in a state-of-the-art indoor arena as well as on a real working ranch, allowing participants to build confidence in a controlled environment and then apply those skills in real ranch conditions.
Riders will learn the fundamentals of handling, moving, and managing cattle from horseback. Horses will be introduced to tracking and controlling cattle while remaining attentive to rider cues, building confidence, focus, and feel around livestock.
These introductory sessions are ideal for riders looking to improve horsemanship while introducing their horses to ranch-related activities, including:
-
Opening and closing gates
-
Gathering cattle
-
Penning and sorting
-
Basic cattle movement and control
Each session is paced to support steady progress, emphasizing calm, correct work that builds confidence for both horse and rider
